About Us
Purpose
More to Medicine exists to recognize the pure fact that Medicine is far more than a profession. Members embrace the opportunities to cultivate their leadership skills while making a positive impression on the world around them. More to Medicine highlights the need for education and provides enrichment opportunities for medical students during their basic science courses.
“Medicine is ever-evolving and so must we be. More to Medicine is dedicated to continuous learning, bridging clinical knowledge with curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong commitment to growth,” ~ Ayham Alsughair, Founder
“More to Medicine acknowledges that medicine is an evolutionary discipline. Once you decide to pursue it, you must also choose to pursue a life in academia. Our organization bridges the gap, allowing practitioners and students to keep up to date with new discoveries and clinical applications,” ~ Padmanie Bejai, co-founder
Preamble
“The first duty of the physician is to educate the masses, not to take medicine,” – William Osler
We, the members of the More to Medicine Organization, have chosen to dedicate our lives to the art of medicine. Not just a science, but a livelihood.
We pledge to uphold professional standards in our pursuit of furthering our medical education.
We shall consider ourselves students in the discipline; forever evolving and embracing the discoveries medicine has for us.
In this Organization, we will endeavor to foster a collaborative environment for ourselves and our fellows who are interested in furthering medical education and exposure.
Together, we are a unit– one that acknowledges that there is More to Medicine than what is taught and that there is still more that has yet to be discovered.
Our Pillars
Join us on a journey that redefines what it means to pursue medicine. Because medicine isn’t just a profession – it’s a purpose.
Compassion
We are more than just advocates for health. We are the conducts that bring peace and reassurance to our future patients. Have compassion in all that you do, because you do it for the people under your care, not yourself.
Perseverance
Going to medical school is no easy feat. You need determination, ambition, and most of all, perseverance. Walk through the storm and come out on the other side, able and willing to step into your role as a leader and health advocate.
Commitment
The Hippocratic oath is more than a pledge, it's a commitment; one you swear on for the rest of your life. This oath embodies more than just your duty as a physician. Be committed to your values, to your humanity, and to your community.
About Us
“The idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will,” - Andy Warhol More to Medicine began as an idea thrown out in the midst of many coffees, cookies, and far too many biochemistry pathways to revise. What was a spontaneous idea soon grew into an exciting and invigorating project. Now, More to Medicine stands as an organization tailored for medical students to further explore what medicine means to them. Through enrichment workshops and fostering of community outreach projects, More to Medicine proves the point that medicine is more than a profession – it’s a passion. Ayham Alsughair, Founder - “I’m passionate about medicine and currently on the path to becoming an Emergency Room doctor. I’m drawn to the fast-paced, high-stakes environment of the ER and am committed to continuous learning, compassionate care, and making a real impact in people’s lives.” Padmanie Bejai, co-founder - “Medicine has been a long-time passion of mine. I had nearly a decade worth of experience before continuing to pursue higher education. My goal is to return to the Emergency Department as a physician and give back to the community that allowed me to discover my passion and taught me perseverance. Medicine is more than a field of study; it’s a passion that continuously fuels fire for patient advocacy. Clinicians are only as good as their hearts are, because without that you lose sight of the humanistic side of medicine.“
